My Obligations

In April 2018 I become a Commonwealth Registered Marriage Celebrant. With this come a number of legal and professional requirements.

First and foremost, I work under the following legal frameworks:

  • Marriage Act 1961 and Marriage Regulations 2017
  • Migration Act 1958
  • Privacy Act 1988
  • Copyright Act 1965
  • Age Discrimination Act 2004
  • Disability Discrimination Act 1992
  • Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission Act 1986
  • Sex Discrimination Act 1984
  • Competition and Consumer Act (replaces the Trade Practices Act) 2010

Information on these can be found on the Australian Government website and information on the Commonwealth Marriage Celebrant’s Program can be found at www.ag.gov.au/FamiliesAndMarriage/Marriage/

I need to provide you with:

  • information on how to make a complaint against a marriage celebrant, this link explains it all:
    https://www.ag.gov.au/FamiliesAndMarriage/Marriage/Pages/Complaintagainstamarriagecelebrant.aspx
  • a copy of the Attorney General’s “Happily ever…before and after” brochure which can be found at: https://www.ag.gov.au/FamiliesAndMarriage/Marriage/Documents/happily-ever-before-and-after.pdf

Professionally, I am required to comply within the Marriage Celebrant’s Code of Practice and to join a Celebrant Association. I have chosen to join the Australian Federation of Civil Celebrants
